Frequently Asked Questions

What is Swiss Water decaf coffee?

Swiss Water Decaf is coffee with nearly all the caffeine removed (99.9%) using just water, not chemicals.

The process combines water and a special Green Coffee Extract (GCE). It gently draws out the caffeine while keeping the coffee’s flavour and aroma.

This lets you enjoy coffee that tastes like the real thing, but without the jitters.

What is the Swiss Water decaf process

Here’s how the Swiss Water Process works:

First, green coffee beans soak in hot water, pulling out both the caffeine and flavours. This water goes through a carbon filter that removes just the caffeine, leaving all the good tastes behind.

Then, that flavour-rich water (called GCE) is used again to gently remove caffeine from fresh beans—but the flavour stays in the beans. When finished, the beans are dried and roasted, ready to brew great-tasting decaf.

How does it differ from other decaffeinating methods?

The Swiss Water Process uses only water, no chemicals at all. In contrast, the CO₂ method uses carbon dioxide under pressure, and the sugarcane method uses a natural solvent called ethyl acetate.

If you want totally chemical-free decaf, Swiss Water is a great pick!

How much caffeine is in Swiss Water processed decaf?

Swiss Water Decaf removes 99.9% of the caffeine. That means one cup usually has only a tiny trace, enough that most people can enjoy it any time of day without feeling wired.

Are Swiss Water decaf beans sustainable?

Yes, Swiss Water Decaf is considered more sustainable. There are no added chemicals, and water gets recycled in the process.

Many beans are also Fair Trade and organic, making this a win for both you and the planet.

Which decaffeinated coffee brands use the Swiss Water method?

We offer our own Swiss Water Decaf here at Rave Coffee, and it’s one of our bestsellers!

Over the years, we’ve experimented with different blends of coffee beans to find the perfect decaf with clean taste, reliable quality, and sustainable sourcing. If you want decaf that’s chemical-free and full-flavoured, give Swiss Water Decaf Blend Nº 11 a try.
