About Mexico El Zapoteco Green Coffee Beans

500g - Unroasted coffee beans suitable for home roasting.

Having worked with this group of smallholders for five years now, we thought it would be a great option to add to our green coffee range. This coffee has impressed us year after year and it’s a great example of a Mexican origin. You can expect a smooth, light-to-mild body coffee, with a good amount of sweetness and some subtle fruit notes, making it a very good all-day drinker.

Please note: never attempt to grind, green unroasted beans.

Based just north of Oaxaca City, Sierra Juarez is Home to Café El Zapoteco, an association of 180 coffee producing families from three towns. It's a close knit community, neighbours helping to harvest each others crop, with the farm's owner providing food instead of payment. Farms vary from 0.5 to 5 Hectares, but most are relatively small at under 1 hectare on average. The group is led by Romulo Chavez who works directly with buyers and works hard to nurture a community-centric approach to coffee production.

This washed coffee is depulped one day after harvest then fermented for between 12 to 36 hours. The coffee is then dried on rooftops under direct sun. Sun-drying is a fairly slow process due to the cool air, high humidity, and misty afternoons in the region.

This community’s work produces a wonderfully approachable coffee full of milk chocolate, pecan & sugary cherry sweetness.
