This coffee hails from the Guji growing region of Ethiopia. Historically, traceability from this region has been limited and the nuances of each farm and locality have been lost when combined to form regional lots. However, this is starting to change with farmers and small co-operatives able to sell their more distinct coffees.

As the coffee industry continues to develop, we are also able to access accurate information on coffee varietals. This lot is a combination of 3 JARC (Jimma Agricultural Reseach Centre) created in the 1970s in response to the Coffee Berry Disease. These varietals are also known for their high yields and distinctive flavour.

These coffee cherries are grown by individual smallholders and delivered as fresh fruit to the Buku washing station operated by Esayas Bareso. Here they are hand-sorted, dried or traditional raised beds, then sorted once more. Once fully dried they are package for export.
