About Colombia Villamaria Decaf Nº 282
We are so pleased to be offering another decaffeinated RARE coffee! Rave has a longstanding relationship with the producers of Villamaria, and has purchased both caffeinated and natural processed lots from them in the past.
The neighbouring city of Manizales is home to the decaffeination plant which puts this coffee in a unique position of adding very little food miles due to the extra processing required. This year’s crop is tasting particularly great with flavours of high quality chocolate ganache, sticky fried figs and butterscotch.

The station’s growth has positively impacted nearby communities like Villarazo, La Batea, and Corozal. Colombian farmers have long faced broken promises of better prices from large institutions, leading to mistrust. However, Jamaica has built trust by consistently supporting local farmers.
With our export partner, Raw Material, and Rave Coffee, farmers receive better prices and reduced labour by selling cherries rather than processed parchment. The station’s coffees, known for exceptional flavours, are gaining demand, further increasing farmer returns.
Location and Decaffeination
Villamaría is in Caldas, near Manizales, and benefits from natural resources like the Chinchiná River.
After handpicking and sorting, cherries are pulped, washed, and dried. They then undergo sugarcane decaffeination, a process using ethyl acetate (EA), a compound found in fermented fruits. The EA is made from local sugarcane in Palmira, fermented in the waters of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, near Villamaría.
This natural decaf process preserves the coffee’s outstanding flavours, offering farmers better livelihoods and roasters exceptional quality.
