Potosi is the founding farm of the renowned and award winning Café Granja La Esperanza. This estate has become a pioneer of the speciality scene in the region, producing experimental coffees using new processing techniques and unusual varietals of coffee species.

In 1945 Blanca Ligia Correa and Juan Antonio Herrera worked on the Potosi farm. They introduced three new varietals - yellow bourbon, red bourbon and caturra - and in doing so Café Granja was born. Two of their eleven children went on the further develop the estate, acquiring new farms as well as managing farms in Panama (and even winning the highly prized ‘Best of Panama’ award).

Whilst there has been huge success and international acclaim for the coffees produced here, the estate faces challenges of climate change, soil degradation and the sensitivity of the specialist varietals they work with.
