frequently asked questions
What is the AeroPress?
The AeroPress coffee maker is a brewing device for making filter coffee. Coffee is steeped in a tube and then forced through a paper filter with a plunger for a rich, smooth and clean-tasting cup of coffee.
What's the best coffee for AeroPress?
The best coffee for your AeroPress will depend on your tastes, though you should use finely ground beans, such as espresso grind, for best results.
A great place to start is with our Signature Blend, or Colombia El Carmen if you prefer single origin coffees.
Can you wash AeroPress coffee makers in the dishwasher?
We'd recommend that you hand wash the AeroPress Premium due to its handmade nature. Using warm water and dish soap will help keep it in top condition (and making you great cups of coffee) for as long as possible.
However, you can clean all other AeroPress coffee makers in the top shelf of your dishwasher.
Is AeroPress coffee like espresso?
The AeroPress is capable of creating a strong, concentrated style coffee much like Espresso however, it will never be a true espresso.
This is because espresso is ground coffee that has a layer of crema; a result of the pressure brewing process. The AeroPress method does not produce crema, as whilst pressurised, it is a long way off the 9 bar needed to be considered espresso.
The AeroPress also uses different volumes. Though the AeroPress does not produce a true espresso, the concentrated coffee produced can be enjoyed on its own as an espresso-style drink, or used to make different styles of coffee including lattes and cappuccinos.
Do you need a good grinder for AeroPress?
You do not necessarily need a good grinder if you have an AeroPress, as you can buy your coffee beans pre-ground for your preferred brew method. However, if you prefer to grind your beans at home, then we recommend investing in a decent coffee grinder for best results.
A good grinder produces evenly sized coffee grounds, which maximise the flavour. We recommend using a burr grinder (a grinder that uses two revolving abrasive surfaces rather than a blade) . Burr grinders help to prevent over, or under-extraction of the coffee, which might affect taste.
A good grinder doesn't need to be expensive or high-end. So long as your grinder produces fine and consistent grinds, it will work.
