Farm Notes:

The community here is led by a group of seriously driven women who are doing things the right way. They focus on ethical production, support each other, and reinvest their Fairtrade premiums into projects that make a difference in day to day village life.

This isn’t your typical large scale Brazilian setup. We’re talking about a collective of 100+ small farmers, each working tiny plots of around 1–2 hectares. Coffee is grown together, harvested on steep mountain slopes, then carried down into the village where everyday spaces driveways, shared yards turn into drying patios. It’s a proper community effort, with families and neighbours all pitching in.

At the heart of it all are the women. They’re the backbone of the village and the reason this coffee has earned such a strong reputation for both quality and integrity.

Maria Paula Rocha is the key link between the village and the Fairtrade exporter Ascarive the sister company to Cocarive. She oversees quality control, from sorting to cupping and makes sure everything is up to standard before export. Just as importantly, she helps ensure that the Fairtrade premiums are used where they matter most.

And that’s the real difference here those premiums aren’t taken individually. They’re pooled together and invested into community projects that benefit everyone in the village.

This coffee not only showcases a fantastic approachable natural Brazilian lot, it also showcases the dedication and hard work of the people behind it! Roasted slightly darker, this coffee highlights rich natural sweetness and smooth cocoa notes for a deeply satisfying cup.

Close to the Kenyan border, Tarime is a small but high-potential coffee region powered by dedicated smallholders. Since 2020, improved practices and better premiums have drawn farmers back to coffee, restoring both quality and volume. Today, Tarime’s natural coffees are carefully processed, then milled and graded in nearby Moshi. This fruit forward coffee is roasted to enhance the natural sweetness, but to also retain the vibrant notes of ripe berry and citrus.
