TRADITIONAL
Nº 154 Indonesia U Tani Gayo
Country: Indonesia
Process: Wet-Hulled
Tasting Notes: Dark Chocolate, Black Cherry, Earthy Spice
Roast Level: Dark 5/5
FARM NOTES:
The U Tani Gayo Co-op is working to empower young producers in rural areas and thereby ensuring the longevity of specialty coffee in the region. Unique to Indonesia, this coffee is wet-hulled following picking. This process produces a coffee with a higher moisture content, which in turn, involves careful and considered roasting. The results are typically big and bold! Think dark chocolate, dark stewed fruits, and a long finish in the cup.

FARM NOTES:
The coffee farms involved in producing this lot lie between 1200 - 2100 m above sea level and are situated around a volcanic system that forms part of the Andes mountain range. The soil is loam clay with some volcanic matter and the climate is very humid. Therefore the coffee is planted under a canopy of indigenous trees including guava, chirimoya and others. Most of the coffee produced here has been traditionally sold on the internal market - so we are very happy to be roasting some of this here at Rave too!
This lot is everything that is great about South American washed coffees, with balanced sweet flavours and lots of effortless brewing!
This coffee is from producers in Espíndola and Quilanga in the Loja province of Ecuador. It's been a few years since we had any coffee from this lesser known speciality coffee origin - the country produces a lot less coffee than its neighbours Colombia and Peru, but the conditions here are perfect for growing exceptional coffee. With eye watering altitudes, good soil, and reliably warm climate, the coffees are typically very sweet, with rich fruit flavour and medium acidity.
