Terra Coffee represents around 450 smallholders who contribute to this lot of Gesha coffee. The Gesha varietal is renowned for its distinct and unique flavour profile and heady aromatics. It is particularly low yielding and hard to cultivate - but the rewards can be more than worthwhile! In combining Gesha varietals from a smallholder group - producers who would not be able to produce saleable lots on their own, now have access to a global speciality market hungry for unique and prized coffees.
Terra Coffee combine and process the individual lots and also other varietals, processes and coffee qualities. They also offer education on processing and sensory analysis to their producers and particularly encourage under-represented groups to become involved in their programmes.
This coffee originates in the Huila region of Colombia (where we buy lots of Rave coffees from!) The area boasts reliable warmth, high altitudes and a tradition of exceptional coffee growing. These particular coffee cherries are picked in the early morning and washed to remove all fruit pulp and mucilage. They are then fermented for 24 hours before being laid out to dry in the sun for around 8 days.
