The Moe Htet Estate is situated in Central Myanmar, an area targeted specifically for coffee cultivation. The country is rarely named as a speciality coffee producer, and is relatively new to the market - but it is where new and exciting coffee projects can be found. The owner, Kyaw Hlaing, together with help from local agronomists, has established coffee production of several varietals and processing techniques. This particular lot is the combination of the ‘Costa Rica’ varietal and natural processing. The picked coffee cherries are taken to the Mandalay Coffee Group (MCG) milling facility where the coffee is floated twice to remove underripes and foreign matter, before being dried on low raised beds that can be covered during the rains. Agronomists on the farm have experimented with grafting the arabica plants onto Robusta root systems. This is thought to give the coffee plant a different nutrient uptake and offer better disease resistance (Robusta is a much hardier plant). This coffee was a component of our 2023 Christmas Blend.

Ash says...

This natural makes for a great espresso with milk - soft red fruits and lots of caramel-like sweetness.
