About Guatemala La Esperanza Nº 262

The farm name, La Esperanza, translates as ‘hope'. This represents what the farm means to the owner and their family over the generations.

Aurelia, the current owner, remembers stories of his father travelling for two days on foot from his farm to the local mill.

The region is beautiful, remote and perfect for growing coffee - and more recent improvements to infrastructure have made it easier for coffees from this farm to be exported to the international coffee market.

This washed coffee is comprised of only the ripest, sweetest coffee cherries which are hand harvested before pulping (removing of the cherry skin and fruit). The pulped coffee is transferred to fermentation tanks for up to 36 hours. The coffee is then dried for 10 - 20 days before it can leave the mill and begin its journey to Rave.

The remote location and high altitudes at La Esperanza, have been perfect for coffee production over the years, but getting access to that coffee has been difficult. Aurelia’s father, and founder of the farm, would walk for many days to deliver his coffee cherries to the nearest mill!

The importer of this coffee, Marta at Coffee Bird, even refers to it as a ‘miracle’ coffee. The exceptional quality and complex taste profile of this coffee makes it among the best in the region.
