About Rwanda Bumbogo Natural Nº 229

This Rwandan coffee, processed using the natural method, is bright, juicy and reminiscent of blackcurrant wine gums! The fermentation is gentle and its impact on the final flavour is subtle. Unlike some of the more wild ferments of modern natural processing, this coffee is more about fruit flavour, sweetness and balance. A testament to the care and detail of the producers.

The Bumbogo coffee comes from the Gakenke region, which has been home to many winning Cup of Excellence coffees in recent years. Situated in the Northern Province of Rwanda, the altitude and rainfall here is ideal for coffee production. Coffee cherries are allowed to mature slowly and evenly, and the washing station itself assists the local communities with processing, and has doubled in capacity since 2018. The raised drying beds built here enable even drying of the coffee, and elevate the coffee away from the moist ground and local wildlife! Our partner, Raw Materials, is working with this station and others in the area in accessing new markets in the speciality sector, bringing higher returns for the producers.‌

Ash says...

The Bumbogo coffee is sweet, clean and floral - rather than wild and boozey. One to wow the tea-drinkers!
