La Cascarilla is a village in the district of Jaen and is located relatively close to the city. La Cascarilla isn’t well known for it’s quality coffee, and until recently very few people were working to change that. Like many areas in Northern Peru, most coffee here is sold locally, to intermediaries and La Cascarilla is one area where local traders have aggresively promoted catimors and given fertilizer subsidies in order to increase the production, but by doing so they greatly lowered the price and trapped producers in a fertiliser dependency. These producers are the exception and were a lucky find!
