This Organic Guji forest coffee is produced by Metad, a local group established to run regular training in sustainable agriculture and pre-payment of crops, which gives these farmers more stability. The group has also already distributed more than 600,000 seeds of coffee trees to the farmers with whom it works. The Metad group was created by members of the diaspora who, after years spent in the United States, returned to their country of origin. Bishan Fugu is the name of the village where this forest stands, just over 400 km south of Addis Ababa in the Oromo region. The forest covers 85 hectares and is the original habitat to ancient endemic species, some of which are increasingly rare in Ethiopia. They decided to plant the coffee in the forest to provide shade for the plants and also to ensure the forest was protected by giving it an important role in the economy.
